Valentijn As, University of Amsterdam

Valentijn As (1999) studied Human Geography and Spatial Planning and Italian Language and Culture at Utrecht University. He received the 2020–2021 WIS Thesis Award for his thesis on the contemporary use of religious cultural heritage in Rome. Following an internship at Museum Catharijneconvent, during his Master’s in Curating Arts and Cultures – Arts of the Netherlands, he interned at Le Gallerie degli Uffizi in Florence where he conducted research on Fra Angelico in the context of the exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi. He is currently Junior Curator of Old Masters and Modern Art at Rijksmuseum Twenthe in Enschede.
Sointu Cantell, Utrecht University

Sointu Cantell (2000) is an incoming PhD candidate at the European University Institute in Florence (EUI), having completed her Research Master in Renaissance Studies at Utrecht University in 2025. Her research focuses on institutional agency in early modern patronage relationships, with broader interests in visual culture, cultural governance and memory in early modern Europe. She is the winner of the 2025/2026 WIS thesis prize, as well as the thesis prize of the Stichting tot Gedachtenis 2025/2026.
