Author Guidelines

All contributions to Incontri undergo a thorough double-blind peer-review process to ensure the highest scholarly standards. Final decisions on publication rest with the editorial board of Incontri, which operates independently from the Werkgroep Italië Studies board. Authors are advised to consult the journal’s information on the peer-review process prior to submission.  

All contributions must adhere to our comprehensive Submission guidelines (available in English | Italian | Dutch). Contributions may be submitted in English, Italian, or Dutch, and should conform to the following length requirements: original research articles between 5000 and 8000 words (including notes); short articles between 2000 and 3000 words (including notes); translations and interviews maximum 3000 words; reviews around 1000 words; and notes up to 750 words.

Research articles must be submitted with the following information: (a) five keywords in English and Italian; (b) a brief author biography of approximately 100 words, written in the same language as the article; (c) preferred contact details (home or work address) and email address; (d) a brief abstract of approximately 200 words in English and Italian; (e) the author’s ORCID iD.

Short articles, translations, and interviews require submission of: (a) five keywords in English and Italian; (b) a brief author biography of approximately 100 words in the language of the article;  (c) preferred contact details (home or work address) and email address; and (d) the author’s ORCID iD.

Reviews and notes must include the author’s contact address (work or private), email, and ORCID iD.

All contributions should be prepared using the journal’s standard templates (Articles | Reviews | Notices).

Authors are welcome to include images within their contributions. Images should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and must be accompanied by captions and source attributions. Authors bear full responsibility for securing copyright permissions for any included materials.  

Incontri does not charge Article Processing Charges (APC) or submission fees. Authors receive no financial compensation for their submissions.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must satisfy the following criteria:

  • The submission has not been previously published and is not currently under consideration by another journal. If otherwise, an explanation should be provided in the Comments to the Editor.
  • The manuscript conforms to the stylistic and bibliographic standards detailed in the Submission Guidelines (English | Italian | Dutch), including provision of DOIs for all online references where applicable.  
  • The author(s) declare(s) the absence of any conflict of interest and warrant(s) that the work does not infringe upon any copyright, proprietary, or personal rights of any third party.
  • The submission file is provided in Microsoft Word or RTF format.

All listed authors have consented to authorship and the corresponding author is authorised to act on their behalf throughout the submission and publication process
