Tessa Leesen, Tilburg University

Tessa Leesen is associate professor at Tilburg University, the Netherlands. She is a historian with a particular interest in Antiquity, Roman law, and classical rhetoric. She has published on the school controversies between the Sabinians and Proculians, most notably in her monograph ‘Gaius Meets Cicero. Law and Rhetoric in the School Controversies’ (Brill 2010). Her interest in Cicero informs her recent work on the relevance of classical thought for higher education, including the chapter ‘When Resilience Falls Short: Lessons from Cicero’s Hardships for Today’s Students’ in Rethinking Resilience in Character Education. Insights from Literature and Philosophy, which she co-edited (Routledge 2025).
